All Aboard!

On October 18th, my cruise on the Aegean Odyssey began.  This 14 days voyage organized by Voyages to Antiquity would take me to countries and places where I have never been:  Greek Islands, Malta, Sicily and Spain.

The bus ride from our Athens hotel to Piraeas took about 40 minutes and boarding went pretty smoothly except the guy I checked in with gave me the wrong card and cabin number.  That was frustrating because he had sent me down to 448 when I was supposed to be in 809.  Once that got sorted out, it was fine – more than fine!  There was a bottle of champagne waiting for me in my room plus some little almond paste goodies and chocolates.

I rested a bit and then wandered around the decks. I bumped. Into Daphne and a gay couple she'd met (Phil and Lek from NZ and Thailand).  We chatted until it was time for the lifeboat drill.  After that, there was a “meet and greet” for solos – which included a couple of glasses of bubby.  I didn’t really meet anyone I wanted to follow up with as Daphne, Phil, Lek and I have seemed to become a group, so to speak.  We met for dinner on the Terrace Grill which was outside rather than eating in the more formal Marco Polo Restaurant.  I had a fish dinner which was quite lovely accompanied with wine.  After dinner, we went back to Phil and Lek’s room where they had some sort of very fancy (and sweet) dessert to share and I contributed my bottle of champagne.  It was fun but it had also been a tiring day and we have an early start in the morning.

So, it seems it is all off to a very good start!
